Maxwell Shiller is a Ph.D. Candidate in Classics broadly interested in the interactions between ancient societies and their environments. His dissertation explores how Rhodes, in name a city, island, and ancient state, harnessed technological transitions in agriculture, shipbuilding, and minting practices to grow and sustain its economic and political power during the Hellenistic period. An interdisciplinary scholar, Shiller is also a student in the Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Science and Technology through the Spatial Sciences Institute.
